Long time Classic RCT fan here. I'd like to be the first to say that I'd happily participate in any Beta or Alpha release you guys put out. :) That being said, if you developers are reading this and if you're planning on doing a Beta program, when would that begin?

Really excited!

Very interested in this myself. I kinda doubt it, especially seeing as release is already just a few months away; but if there is a beta, I would LOVE to participate in it :D

I, too, would love a chance to beta test RCTW. I remember beta testing Soaked, successful bug reporters got their names in the game as guests, or staff.

I doubt we will see an alpha/beta. Simply due to the fact that the game is one that is not in need of extreme testing, as the majority can be tested locally without a problem.

I disagree. Unlike past RCT games, this one involves multiplayer elements. Last thing we want is a SimCity (2013) launch, where they had major server issues and instability. There's only so much you can test locally. I think any game that involves multiplayer gameplay needs extreme testing.

Just like everyone else, I would be very interested in participating in alpha/beta testing if needed.

^Well, e.g. SimCity had a beta. But that wasn't really a beta. That was more like: hey, here you have a demo of 1 hour to show a game that won't be playable after your 2nd hour. That probably gave them quite some sales. The beta/demo was quite pretty, even though it confirmed a lot of the concerns the community had.

BTW: sign me up for the non-existing list of the not-yet-announced-and-probably-never-happening* beta.

*If Atari believes to release this game early 2015 there's hardly any time left for a beta.

The way the SimCity "beta" was handled seems to be the way the industry's going. Release a glorified demo to seek opinion on what they should add into the first patch, since the game has already gone GM.

An active bug reporting process is far more rewarding, and if well facilitated could lead to a much more polished product.

The best way to handle this at this point would be to launch a Steam Early Access. That way they can get pre-sales to help fund development, test it before launch, gain input from the community, and release patches quickly. Unfortunately, with an 'Early 2015' release date, and a hint of a beta still being likely, I honestly would not expect RCTW to launch before Q3 or Q4 2015. Too few updates for being this close to gold release....they should be ramping up marketing if development was on track. I have faith in Atari, but I'm also skeptical that they'll deliver as promised since RCT4M was released.

A beta for the new Roller Coaster Tycoon? Yes, please. Where do I sign up? \o/
About Steam Early Acess , although many people do not like how the system has been used (with many games having negative feedback for abusing the "Early Acess" feature), that's still the best way to launch the beta with a notable visibility.

Early access would be beautiful, we can give them monetary support while testing their game. Win win. Although the Early Access thing has been abused by some developers and such.

I want to be able to participate on a alpha/beta on steam - Steam Early Access - on this game!!

And most important i hope this game not to be like sim city and that we could get a big park insteak small ones.
Better, i hope that we can micro manage the park in a way that can be easy to build but also, fun and challenging.

It would be great to have FAST passes so peeeps can buy and not wait or wait times to be considerable lower - Like on real parks.

I loved past RTC and i am eager to play this one! :D

we should ABSOLUTELY NOT have a paid early access. look what Atari did with RCT 4 mobile.( i mean look at the game they created) if they want my money we need to see more game play and features first before discussing paid alphas/betas

It was just suggested in a duplicate thread that all who sign up here at the forums, by having signed up have shown they have a great deal of desire for the series, and so should become beta-participants, or as the thread labels it, Testers.

Nooooooo.

There are over 3500 members, last time I checked. That would be a lot of feedback sources for Atari, Mattlab, and his crew to herd. There has be a sifting process. And that would a signigificant amount of Peeps who wouldn't have to purchase the game, and a great way, if you knew of it, to get yourself a free pre-ordered copy of the game. Without ensuring that the beta player does anything to help the process along.

I thought I would share here in case others miss that passing thought regarding inclusion, and we could discuss it.

I agree with dwwilkin's. As someone who has done BETA Testing on both sides of the fence - as a BETA Tester and as a company employing BETA Testers - while you want a large BETA Tester team to get a lot of feedback, you don't want to give the software out to everyone. BETA Testing is not just a matter of sitting down to play the game, it's a matter of looking into set tasks the company wants input on and you have to be ready to file reports. It can be fun, I certainly enjoy doing it, but it's nothing you open up to everyone.

Just saying, I think everybody on the forum i wants I'm on the action. Mattlab said in a post more details soon, so obviously they have a system and not just have people spam into a thread, unless they make that thread official. If you really want beta be active on the forums and be a good citizen and show intrest and post ideas. That way if they do have a closed beta/alpha that is not just a pay for early acsess you have a better chance.

Did you guys even read my post! That post was meant to kill this thread. This thread is stupid, they are going to have a more formal way of finding beta testers than this. They said that more details on beta will be released not post stupid post pointlessly bumping up a page that should be removed.

02-13-2015, 04:25 AM
Wow dude. Take a slow deep breath in. Good.

A) More details could mean anything and you certainly have no idea what it means

B) They've also stated they read the forums every day. But I do know this- if this thread DOES factor in (this early on, it is possible), I might know who's at the bottom of the list...

Noahjsc
02-13-2015, 11:09 AM
They said they read the forums , but they never said spam a single post that does not really need anymore posts. They are more than likely going to go one out of two routes. Pay for beta, or they are going start a forum on it that you can apply on. I'm also pretty sure beta won't be for awhile do the fact that they are still leaving out lots of information in their posts. Basically they are teaseing is an not ready to release a ton information that a beta would do. Post here is not going to increase your chances at becoming a beta tester. What will is making lots of good non pointless posts and maybe having money.

k1ng r4t
02-13-2015, 02:39 PM
Then why are you posting here? Clearly your tactics failed and now you're doing nothing but bringing in negativity. Devs have used forums to find beta testers more than many times. It's really not that improbable. If anything they'll read through and get a good idea of the rigs the game will be played on early on. Looks like a lot of laptops...

Every game is mysterious before release, why do people keep using this as an excuse to whine about nothing?

I didn't care that much before, and OBVIOUSLY it's unlikely (like anybody didn't think that already), but now I really, really hope this thread factors in, if not just to prove a point to humanity: You never freakin' know.

So maybe if you give us a chance we as the consumers could help you guys out. I am not trying to be a problem to the community. So yeah sign me up;) If it isn't a problem. I first played Rct 2 and my father played the original and also knew Chris Sawyer, I know it has nothing to do with it, but I think you should give us some! I'd like to be paid beta tester. Is that a thing!?

In all seriousness though, I don't think Atari would want my opinion. I'm much to pessimistic and critical toward the "details"; of graphics and design. I think they're more inclined to get an "average joe", type A PC game player.

Are we being a bit silly asking for Beta participation? I don't think anyone on the forum would actually turn down the offer to test drive their favorite game.
I certainly wouldn't -- paid or otherwise. ;)
(although paid would be nice, JK)

What I'm not crazy about is having to pay extra to be a beta tester, like Frontier is going to do with Planet Coaster. First of all it's expensive - US$74.99 vs US$29.99 for the regular pre-order. After the disappointment with TPS, while I don't have a problem with pre-orderings, and will with Parkitect, but I'm just not going to shell out more money for a game before it's released. US$45 to get to test someone's game for them? That may well be something that's becoming more common, but it doesn't make it any more palatable in my book.

I'm hoping Atrai doesn't follow this same path...

Several hours of time each day putting the game through its paces. Feedback to the playtester forum, complete playtesting and writeups of the scenarios.

(Caveat-That is of course should my computer be up to the task. May need you to source me a machine if you require more power than I have currently on hand)

We will have news about beta participation as soon as we are ready for it! :) Its an incredibly important process in making a successful game that the community loves and so its one we definitely want to have. Feedback is critical.

Will you have a closed alpha for more detailed bug reporting before the BETA, aswell as any core features that might nee changing before its too late?

I would be interested in that as i have done a lot of similar stuff in my previous job.

Guys, please note that this isn't a official sign-up thread. Stop posting your specs and begging for beta-participation, I'm sure Mattlab will make a thread for it when the devs need it.

P.S: there is no such thing as 'pipeworks' anymore
