View Full Version : Alice in Wonderland

So I'm not overly artistic or creative and my current computer probably wouldn't be great at letting me make models anyway.
I've got a project in mind of a Wonderland themed park and was wondering of anyone knew of any UGC or would be able to make any Alice in Wonderland inspired pieces (thinking more the animated film than the Tim Burton version)
Hopefully once I get my new computer in a few weeks I'll be able to play around and try making some of my own but just putting the question out there

I could, but I haven't had much luck lately getting my own UGC to show up in my game. What sort of pieces are you thinking of?

Was thinking maybe the caterpillar, some giant flowers and mushrooms, eat me cake, drink me bottle, playing card guards, Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts etc just anything to make a park sort of 'Wonderlandy' obviously not expecting everything or anything overly quickly it's just an idea I'm playing about with in my head

Yeah, I can do some of that. It would work nicely with my Candyland (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=666793277) pack, too. I have some time tonight to start. Most of my modeling work is realistic and grungy (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cirj1CxUkAAKKTI.jpg), so it'll be a nice change of pace.

One nice big piece I would love to do is the Mad Hatter's table. Something like this (http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/29400000/Empty-Backdrop-from-Alice-in-Wonderland-disney-crossover-29453957-1424-1080.jpg), with maybe some small animations (like the dishes moving around or something).

Yeah candyland would work well with it too and the hatters table would be amazing.
Started working on another 'concept' park but keeping that one to myself for now as I'm hoping to enter it into the competition if its ready

I'm not sure if I like the stem looking like concrete, but it's a start. I'll look at it again tomorrow night.

I like that mushroom. Would be something if guests hide under it when it starts raining 'grin'

I'll also adjust the colliders so peeps could walk under it (though I'm not sure how much the peeps are affected by the colliders on decorative objects).

Second mushroom, plus an image in Unity showing them with the scale reference.

I'll upload them to Steam this weekend. Next up, I'll work on the playing card guards.

Good news is, the first piece is on the Steam Workshop.

Bad news is, I can't get the 2nd piece to show up in RCTW. When I do, I'll upload it and start a collection for all the pieces.

Had to put the playing card guard on hold. Instead I started working on giant flowers. Triangle count is a bit high at the moment. Gotta cut that down before I texture it. Is there any particular flowers you'd like to see?

I cant really help you on a suggestion. Been so long ago for me 'grin' But i assume it will be nice the flowers will fit the theme?

I can't even see my own UGC most of the time (I think 3 pieces are visible at the moment). It's really driving me nuts. I keep hoping after every patch that they'll miraculously fix the problem.

Here's the collection link with all three items. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=700779263

(steam://openurl/http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=700779263)I might do another flower next. Or maybe the caterpillar and hookah. That one will be harder, so I might wait on that a bit.

I haven't forgotten about this. It's just a combination of entering this (https://www.allegorithmic.com/blog/contest-road-trip-2116) contest and trying out something that didn't work that's put me behind on producing more of these. I'll be a little slow until that contest is over, though.

Hey Deadly dont worry about it - ive been on vacation so not had much time to play and working on another little project just now until my new laptop arrives next week

That vehicle design contest ended (I didn't win), so now I'm back to making RCTW models. I just did one for my Candyland pack, and now I'm going to do another for the Wonderland pack. I think I'm going to do the Mad Hatter's table I mentioned earlier.

just out of interest deadly how many polys m8.

Oops, I meant to add that to the description, as a warning in case anyone had slowdowns after they enabled it. It has about 31,000 polys (60,000 tris). Three 1024x1024 texture sets, and one collider.

I'll add that to the description.

Very Nice work not sure if rctw can run that amount of polys (i know pc can) i mean PxP makes it lag to 12 fps. on a I7 and GTX 970, it would be nice if we were given some sort of official info on what the engine can process and how many calls it needs, to keep things smooth. at least a ballpark figure for the UGC crowd so we can create items that dont stall or crash it.

It's hard for me to say. I built my computer just a few months ago, so it's pretty high end, so I can't always get a feel for how lower end machines can handle something. People can always try it and then disable it if it causes them problems.

I might also see if I can clean it up a little more, so long as I don't mess up the UVs doing so.

i mean 31000 polys is not that high but games like star citizen are running 1 million poly ships (15 or so of them on screen at once with no lag issues) so its not your cgi work its that its got to try to work in a very badly optimized code base. i would love to know how many polys rctw uses in a basic ride such as the big wheel (which i love) so we can get a idea of how many polys there (unity)engine can run.
