Hello Tycoons,

We’ve received a ton of feedback (https://forum.rollercoastertycoon.com/forumdisplay.php?48-Early-Access-Sub-Forum), seen some awesome coasters being made, and are excited by the amazing UGC (http://steamcommunity.com/app/282560/workshop/) that has been created.

That said, it is time for our first major update. The focus was on fixing a number of critical bugs, adding new content, further balancing the simulation, and of course, the first set of graphical improvements. Our plan is to gradually improve the visual quality of the game (throughout the Early Access program and beyond), while trying to maintain a balance between visual quality and performance. We are upgrading to a newer version of Unity, so that we don’t degrade performance as we up-res the art. This overall plan will take us time to do but you will see gradual improvements (where we balance performance vs graphics) over the next few weeks and months while we do (the first of which you see today). This is only the first stage of these graphical improvements.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS:

1. Graphic Quality:

We’ve spent a bunch of time reading your feedback and seeing what are the immediate fixes we can make and what requires our engine upgrade to be done. In short term we were able to do a ton of work to lighting, shaders, and terrain texture resulting in:


[*=1]Refinement of the ambient lighting.
[*=1]New bounce light to the Sky Dome.
[*=1]Updated ground textures of the Forest map
[*=1]Increased texture quality and color correction of bushes and flowers
[*=1]Increased the texture quality on the wooden coaster station (testing this out before we roll it out elsewhere)

These images illustrate some of the graphics work we have done from the Early Access Launch Version to today's update. You will see more in the coming weeks but please adjust your graphic settings accordingly to ensure the right balance of performance vs graphics for you.



This is a small but important first step towards many future graphic updates. Please continue sending your feedback so we can address any concerns or questions as quickly as possible. Our plan is to test out improvements in phases, note performance, and make tweaks as we go based on your feedback.

Important Note – Player Settings File Reset

Due to the work we did on the graphics for this build, we had to reset all “Player Settings” files. We elected to make the new default "Very High" with this reset whereas before it was defaulting to a much lower quality. This means that players who are seeing performance issues should go back and lower their graphical quality to account for this.


TO BE CLEAR - ALL GRAPHICS SETTINGS HAVE BEEN RESET TO A HIGHER LEVEL IN THIS BUILD. YOU MUST LOWER THEM BACK TO YOUR PREFERENCE ONCE YOU LOAD OR YOU MAY SEE PERFORMANCE ISSUES.


2. Simulation:

The simulation needs some love and we gave it a bunch! Our designers have been hard at work reading your suggestions and, as a first update, you will see improvements in the following areas:

[*=1]Janitors should be quicker at cleaning up messes
[*=1]Mechanics should be quicker at fixing rides
[*=1]Medics should be quicker at healing peeps
[*=1]Entertainers should be able to entertain peeps for longer



3. Building Tools

Over the last week, we have improved our building experience and based on your feedback you will see key improvements in the following areas:




[*=1]Improvement on the placement drop of scenery items – specifically this was done to make Piece by Piece building with UGC easier and more precise
[*=1]Implementation of the cap placement for beginning/end of the curve path
[*=1]Improvement of the rounding radius for Larger Paths
[*=1]Improvement on queue paths making it easier to connect queues to elevated rides



We have also read your requests to implement a new bulldoze tool that will allow users to delete more items at a time. Please know, that we are currently working on a design for this improvement and it will be part of a future update.


4. Animation

We are working intensively on animation bugs. Like we mentioned previously, we will need a few updates to address all the issues. Yes, we know peeps hover above seats on certain rides or simply don’t sit correctly – we are fixing this. In this version, you will see:

TODAY’S NEW STUFF:

In today's version of the game, we’ve provided you with the base of our coaster station. This is for our UGC lovers. This roofless base will give you the opportunity to create a different look and feel for your stations. Be creative, we can’t wait to see what you will come up with!


Coaster station with no roof – looks a bit more realistic but more importantly – lets you build UGC around and on it to make your own!


Last week, many players requested flat parks in Sandbox Mode and we heard you! This update provides you with the option of a flat terrain on all maps. You can access the flat terrain by clicking: You can access the flat terrain by clicking: ‘’Flat Land‘’ next to unlimited money in sandbox mode.


Click sandbox mode – see that we have added a new button to have a flat map! Not everyone likes trees, lakes, and hills everywhere so we made it easier for you to start with a fresh slate.



MAJOR KNOWN ISSUES:

We know there are a lot of issues as per your reports but there are two that truly standout as blocking core functionality. We have not been able to fix these just yet but know we are working on them.

ISSUE 1:
UGC DOWNLOADS: Due to the help and support of the community, we were able to pin point the cause of the bug causing UGC content to not download. We are actively working on a solution and should have a fix for you very soon in an upcoming patch.

ISSUE 2:
57% BUG: We know a few of you are experiencing issues with loading into the game and getting stuck at 57%. We are looking into this issue as well and testing special beta patches with certain users. As soon as we resolve the issue we will put out a hotfix or specific instructions to fix it.

NOTE: Please note that at the moment, per our minimum specs, we only fully support users with Dedicated Graphics Cards.



POTENTIAL FIX: PLEASE UPDATE YOUR GRAPHIC DRIVERS - While this won’t be a fix for everyone, we know that updating your graphics drivers to the latest version does in fact resolve it for a sizable portion of affected users – please check this while we continue to look into the issue.


BUGS FIXED IN THIS BUILD:

Here is a partial list of what was fixed highlighting some of the bigger bug fixes. There are a bunch more fixes as well that you will find and we will work on being able to expose longer bug lists in the future.


Ingame - Cannot connect some plazas with paths
In Game - Paths & Queues - User is unable to connect large path from the center of the entrance building.
Fix mechanic node position
Scenario 3 - All Peeps getting in the park for free
In Game - There is a gap between entrance building and the boundary fence.
In Game - Coaster - A twisted track appears at the end of 'Specialty Pieces'.
In Game - Observation Tower - Lights of the posts does not illuminate at night.
Preview image for the Sand Texture A, Sand Texture B, Sand Texture C and Sand Texture D are missing for the map 'Dusty Dunes'.
The entrance path does not change to the 'Ghost Path' if user connects more number of path to the entrance.
Update collision boxes for queue connections

Roofless Coaster Stations Integrated

NEXT MAJOR UPDATE

Early Access is an exciting time! We have a ton more features, content, and bug updates to go to make this game all it needs to be. Every time we do an update its designed to take your feedback into account, future features, and of course to fix bugs. We are already working hard on our next major update. Our focus, among many other things, will be on the following:

Bug fixing:

General bug fixing – all the things you have reported plus what’s on our lists
Special Attention: Animations and Peeps Disappearing from Coasters as well as a number of additional bugs reported by you. Please continue to go to our forums and report bugs so we can make sure to add them to our trackers for future updates!


Improvements

Additional Graphic improvements
More reduction in lateral g's from banking your curves
Updating pre-made coasters
EIN (excitement/intensity/nausea) number improvements and balance tweaks
Realistic track friction (note, once we implement this it will mean some of your coasters may not work anymore and you will need to tweak them – stay tuned)
Refining and balancing current Scenarios and Campaign Modes


New Stuff:

New Flatride: The Typhoon! We wanted this ready for today’s update but it needs some more love so we plan to do a small patch before our next major update with it! Stay tuned!

I can attest to the graphics and lighting being much better, it is just as that screenshot shows.

Nice update nvizzio. With this update we see the big advantage of the Early Access program: Following the progress on a game during its development phase. I am really looking forward to the future updates.

Should be the skybox and ambient light. (Light that doesnt cast shadows and is everywhere with the same strength.).

Caisquire sky dome is the sky of the game when u look up ur in a dome. so it effects everything in the Lighting.

As far as the graphics settings defaulting to the max, will the game remember custom settings? That was pretty glitchy in the original build.

running fine here,
just cant find the new delete option...
(also my main park stil has its janitors, technicians ect not comming out so guessing that park is bugged for life, testing it out on new park cause on new parks it seems to be working fine now :( )
new graphics on max settings no lag issues (actuale runs smoother) asus gf970 strix

Noticing some possible new bugs here... Was watching JMR stream the new build and noticed how more and more peeps were just getting stuck standing around in the same spot without ever seeming to walk again.
Not sure if this is something that only happens on gamesaves made with previous build or if also happens on new games.

Love the flat map option! Less outlining tress helps with frame rate. Speaking of which, it seems a bit smoother in general - though coasters still randomly "hiccup" along the way (I know I can't be the only one because it's the same on two computers). Someone give me feedback on this, because I don't see anyone mentioning it.

Also: The new UGC Stacking is SO much better now - no more hovering animated piece that's hard to judge what height it will slam down at. One thing though. You guys 1000% need to change the scenery default option to RAISE instead of ROTATE. Every piece you want to stack you need to keep hitting key 2, stack, key 2, stack. I think the average structure will have more stacking than rotating pieces, so make rotate #2, and stack #1 default!

Glad to see the first update so quickly!

Graphics look great! Unfortunately I can't enjoy them yet. Still have to play in Low Settings mode. But it's something to look forward to for when I've upgraded my PC. :D I do hope the Low Settings are kept this way so I can continue to play for now. :)

Me to was aseome to see the big before and after on his stream so jeah good update keep them coming ( Soon ofcourse) :-) it was a great surprised that after a week already a major improvement

People doing nothing and stay at the ride exit. When yo pick them up and drop them again they continue.
Also reload the game after save also temporarily fixes.

just updated and had a little play around. It's so much better. The textures look a bit clearer (cannot wait to see them improved further). It runs generally smoother than before which is good.
Is there a follow up on the fence builder? Is it still being developed? I thought it was going to be included in this update.

Loving the updates. It's great.

I also spot another flat ride in that screenshot, behind the Ferris wheel :D

It is certainly something that has gotten alot worse/more frequent then.

I haven't played it with the patch yet, but watching JMR's stream today has got me very excited about the future of this game. Keep pumping out these improvements (please add underground and fireworks) and this game will be awesome :)

Any links to where one can download this update package' independently of Steam? Their server always has issues sending me anything, so an offline install is required for me to move forward...
EDIT: All good, but even though the game downloaded an 'update' it doesn't seem like it's changed anything at all in terms of unbinding the camera from following the terrain...

This update were so important for you, well done! It has really done something to the game, now Im actually having fun while playing... And the freedom for placing objects is way better than before, not perfect but surely way better! Thank you for this :)

Beside that, Im having a weird FPS drop (down to 3-5 fps) all of a sudden. First time it happend I were building paths - then I tried to play again and it happend out of nowhere. Another time, it were like a flood went through my park and destroyed everything, there came some huge blue-something-blocks. Anyone else experiencing this?

I didnt have any FPS problems before the update - but now I have to play in medium settings (Cant be right, because my computer can handle this), to make the game run - the FPS drops still, then I have to restart the game and its fine again. Hm?

Had exactly the same problem, but before the update, not tested yet since the update. Restarting the game solve the problem but quite hard to do... Hope it will be fixed soon !

I get better performance now with this update and a bug/graphic glitch I was getting where parts of coaster track spontaneously changed colour/texture or turned invisible seems to have been fixed! Thanks for the update I look forward to more :)

P.s. I think my girlfriend will be happy with the vomit reduction as her coasters are all super-nauseating resulting in a park covered in vomit lol

Wow this has got to be the most positive thread on the forum :D

The graphic improvement on the first update was huge, the game is gonna look beast when its properly released! I'm glad it only took them a week to patch as I was starting to lose patience over all the bugs

I like the update, graphics look better to me.
The main problem to me is the coaster builder. I am not able to do a coaster like i want. I always have to deal with nodes and adjustments. Really not what i'm expecting from rollercoaster. I like the rest of the game though, the other rides, the restaurants, themes. It's pretty good compare to what i saw on the preview the evening before it was released.
Even if you still have a lot of improvement to do to make it playable, it's going in a better way.
Just please make the coaster builder really easy (like rct1 and 2). Each time i want to add inversions they are going up or on the side and never straight, it's really hard to handle and it takes a lot of time too. Nausea and Intensity are extreme even with pretty small coasters. I would make this a lot easier.
Thanks for listening to us and make it better.

I can't wait to see more scenery and rides added until i am able to do rollercoasters.

The vomit puke thing was fun in the first rct but now it's pretty boring to me. Don't go to far with this please, just a few with intense rides would be enough.

I cannot post in the bug report thread for some reason, so I will post here...

While playing, all of my peeps and crew workers practically froze in place. They twitch like they are taking a step, but do not change location. All my rides continue working however. This happened when my peep number was at 1900 (it may have been sooner, but I didn't notice while I was building a roller coaster).

The update and the game are great, when it's working, but right now after updating (there was a mini-update after the main first update) all I get is a black screen when trying to start the game. :(

What's the point of having better graphics if the camera won't stay still while you're trying to do the most important thing in the game, namely 'create coasters'?

There's a setting for that in the main menu.

Update bug

Game crashes after loading a savegame!


Edit: After initial loading (when the park appears) it takes a very long time in a freeze mode until the game starts to show track supports und moving peeps.
If you click the mouse while that freeze mode, the game will crash.
